Oulu to Lulea

Bye bye Finland

Hello Sweden

So once again we trusted our lonely planet guide and went to Oulu… It’s a nice city, but frankly we struggled to find much to entertain us so we hopped back in Little Lottie and scampered onwards.

This isn’t to say that Oulu isn’t nice or worth a visit, but on this particular day it didn’t quite capture our imagination.

The drive onwards to Sweden was tedious even by Finlands standards. Roadworks from hell, more random speed limit changes and bad speed limit signposting and a single carraigeway road most of the time, incredibly tedious and unpleasant driving.  Finland is strange, so little traffic, but frankly it’s still more stressful to drive across Finland than drive through central London in rush hour.  It’s weird, how horrible driving in Finnland is.  it shouldn’t be, it’s a beautiful country with really well made up roads but driving there is miserable.

Welcome to Sweden, Sweden greets you with potholes, these stay with you all the way to Norway.  Truly wonderful drive. We found a lovely little parking area to spend the night in the town of Lulea, we didn’t really loiter as we wanted to make progress, but it looked nice enough, the drive along the coast was quite entertaining.  Mrs Frog was even acting in chauffeur mode!
