Another day, another ferry, another UNSECO world heritage site, this tourism malarky is really quite hard work. No beach with a waiter bringing Pimms. Instead we had the delights of breakfast on Tallink’s Star. What a boat the Star turned out to be… It’s primary seating areas (if you hand’t paid for business class) were in a floating Estonian version of Whetherspoons and Burger King. Yes you can get a Whopper on the High Seas!
Tallinn was very beutifull however, without being hypocritical it really suffered from the curse of tourism. Our arrival clashed with the arrival of 4 large cruise liners. The net impact was that the Old Town was almost impossible to walk around until lunch time when the Cruise ship occupants had waddled off to their lunch stops. The other bizarre anomaly was that there were very few restaurants and cafe’s to relieve tourists of their hard earned cash. We found a very nice cafe in an old theatre which was almost deserted (it wasn’t on the main tourist route) but it was all the better for it.

It was quite surprising to see so much of Karl Faberge’s finest work available to buy in Tallinn, the prices were also much lower than James Bond was bidding in Octopussy.
I don’t think it was Pinocchio but the nose had similar proportions.

Tallinn is such a beautiful place to explore and photograph, would love to visit again one day π
